The Pallet Network (UK)

Please note -

1. All requests for help/support for the hub and depot systems should initially be directed to Phil Kenyon in I.T. at the TPN hub. (This allows TPN to monitor quality control)

2. Support for customer implant software should come through the depot and not directly to us.

On-line PODs

On-line PODs - now up and running. See more detailed note below. Also see the test version of the hub on-line POD system at www.zipzap.myftpserver.com by following the link on that page to TPN. The data here is real and contains over 1,500,000 records.

Depot system update

The full version is on our download site at http://www.zipzap.eu

You must install this program on every computer that is to use the TPN system. You should not run the program through the network (i.e. run the TPN program which is installed on another computer) as this will cause spurious problems. The data itself can be anywhere. The program will not currently work with a proxy server.

If using the program on a network we recommend that you turn opportunistic locking off. Put the words 'opportunistic locking' into a search engine like Google and you will see why we suggest it. Ask your IT support for advice on this.

General advice with the depot system

Please check the following in your program :-

Setup/Parameters - put your depot code in as a 3 digit number. 11 should be entered as 011. The FTP settings are important and confidential.

Setup/Routes - you need at least one route 01 (at minimum).

Setup/Trunks - you need at least one trunk vehicle 01 (at minimum).

You will need to set up custom label sizes for the printers. See [HERE] for instructions.

If your computer won't do the FTP download then check these:-

Run Internet Explorer. Does it ask for a password? It shouldn't. If it does, then you are using a dial-up connection and you should enter the password and click on 'remember'. Try running the FTP download with Internet Explorer minimized on the task bar.

If you still have a problem with the FTP site then try the following -

  1. Check that in Parameters you have Passive mode ticked.
  2. If using Norton Personal Firewall then see [HERE]
  3. If using Windows XP then check the Windows® Firewall and ensure the TPN program is listed in Exceptions. See this Microsoft support page for guidance [HERE]
  4. If you are running a Microsoft® Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server on your network then you should seek the advice of your own IT support concerning firewall permissions. See this Microsoft page - this annoyance has been written around in the software. You should set Passive mode in the program OFF as this is dealt with by the ISA server itself.
  5. You may be running ZoneAlarm firewall with internet sharing and it is not configured correctly. Go to a DOS prompt and type this - ping www.zipzap.co.uk. If you get an error 65 then you should see Microsoft Knowledgebase article 316414.

If you still have problems with the FTP transfers then click [HERE]

Problems with printing

  1. If you have problems with Zebra/Eltron thermal printers then click [HERE]
  2. If the program 'crashes' at the point of printing then check your default printer is available for printing (see further below). Then go into Control Panel and System. If you are using Windows XP then you MUST be running Service Pack 2. If you are running Windows 2000 then you MUST be running Service Pack 4. The programs are NOT designed to work on Windows 95/98/NT as these are obsolete products.

[The reason that you need to be on the latest versions is due to the fact that Windows actually does the printing and NOT the program itself. The program simply creates a print job which it then hands over to Windows and asks it to print it. Windows and the printer driver actually do the printing. This is how all Windows based printing is done. It does not print like a typewriter! The program uses the very latest technology to print and it relies on the fact that Windows is up to date.]

**Notes**

We have experienced two problems with printers which have come to light as a result of producing the new depot system. The program does a lot more on the printing side than the previous version.

1. Using an HP1010/1012 printer where you get a message 'error 11 - unable to open printer'. This is a widely reported problem with the printer driver itself and causes it not work with industry standard products like Seagate Crystal Reports and Wordperfect. It appears to be caused by the printer driver not interpreting the change papersize command properly. This really is a HP problem and will tend to occur in many standard programs that require alternative papersizes. We are trying to write around the problem but we have noticed that HP no longer produce these models.

2. Using extremely long printer names. When Windows passes the name to a program it only gives the first 32 characters of it, despite appearing longer in the name visible on the screen. So if the first 32 characters on two printers are identical then the program doesn't know which one is which. Microsoft are unlikely to rewrite this, so the solution is to simply Rename the printers to a shorter name by right-clicking on it and choosing Rename.

Reinstalling the depot system on a new computer

If you are moving the TPN depot program completely from one computer to another then be aware that the correct method of doing this is to perform a backup first, then install the COMPLETE and full version of the program from the installation CD and THEN restore the backup you created.

Failure to do so will give the characteristic symptoms of no barcode on the label or no Twain device appearing in Parameters.

The version numbers of both should be identical and never install an earlier version of the program with data from a later version.

GPF message on depot system when immediately started

  1. If you get a GPF message when loading the depot program then look in your PRINTERS folder.
  2. Are there any printers?
  3. Is one set as a default?
  4. Does this printer print a test page?
  5. If the printer is a remote printer, is it actually available?

The GPF message is characteristic of a loss of printer functions and may be caused by a computer virus!

TPN Depot System discreps and AOL Broadband

While AOL is incompatible with standard MAPI and therefore incompatible with the discrep system, you can set up Outlook Express to send/receive mail that you would normally receive via AOL. This will then allow the use of the discrep email system.

There is a help sheet available from AOL that tells you how to set up Outlook Express to send/receive emails that you normally get in the AOL browser.

In Outlook/Tools/Accounts you simply enter your email address and password then enter a valid POP3 and SMTP server code supplied by AOL. You need individual AOL screen names for each computer that is going to send data. AOL allows 7 screen names per account.

Online PODs - information

Image scanning and retrieval has been in the depot program for the last three years. The viewing of POD images has been in the implant for the same time.

The purpose of providing on-line PODs is for end-users who do not have an implant system. It is also part of our long-term track and trace system.

To use this facility you must allow cookies, Javascript and Java for the session. None of these are a security risk. Provided that you allow these then the end-user computer can be Windows, Linux or Apple Mac based.

[PODS] - this allows you to look for the original POD image. You will be asked for the depot code. This should be entered as a 3 digit number i.e. depot 4 would be entered as 004. This is effectively what the cookie contains.

[Killcookie] - this deletes the cookie from your computer. Under current European Law this is a requirement for all sites using cookies.

Please note that the later editions of Windows XP do not contain Java as standard. You can download it for free from www.sun.com

If you are using Internet Explorer 7 and get a 'null' message when you try to enter the depot code then click on Tools and Options. Go into Security and Internet Zone. Set 'Allow websites to prompt for information using scripted window' to Enable.
