Problems connecting to TPN FTP site - actions to take It is extremely unlikely that this is a problem with the TPN program itself. Check the FTP log. A large red cross will appear to the left of the logged entry. Click on the [+] symbol and it will open. A red cross next to 001 means that you could not connect to the FTP site. You may get a message that says 'Socket Error'. This means either - 1. Your PC could not connect to the internet 2. The site address for TPN is wrong. 3. The username is wrong. 4. The password is wrong. 5. You do not have the Passive box ticked in parameters and you are using broadband. A red cross next to 002 means that it could not change into the right place on the FTP site. This means the Remote Directory in Parameters is wrong ie a typo. A red cross next to 003 means that it could not send/receive files. This means your internet firewall is blocking the transfer (accounts for 99% of all reported problems). You need to open the firewall and go into the settings. Ensure that Pallet Network program is PERMITTED. If using Windows XP then check the Pallet Network program is permitted in the Windows Firewall (in Control Panel). If you are running XP and you don't have a Windows Firewall then you are not on the current version and you MUST update at http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com If using Norton Internet Security then go into the Personal Firewall and look at programs. If the Pallet Network program appears several times then delete all occurences and then click on ADD. Browse for the local drive C: then the TPN directory. Click on the Pallet Network program and OK. Ensure this is set to PERMIT. If you receive a message saying 'file has exceeded storage allocation' or similar then wait 5 minutes and retry the operation. Please report this to I.T. at the hub as this is a server problem. We have encountered a couple of depots using a MIcrosoft ISA Server which has a built-in firewall of its own. You will need to speak to your own IT support for guidance on this. Place the words ISA SERVER FTP in a search engine for assistance. If you still have problems then you should initially contact Phil Kenyon in I.T. Support at the hub or speak to your own I.T. support. ZiPZAP Computers Limited 5th March 2006
